OUR APPROACH TO MUSIC?
  • A special blend of singing games and activities
  • designed to develop specific musical skills – starting with the child’s main instrument – the singing voice.
  • A child centred musical approach inspired by Zoltan Kodaly and derived from many years of teaching and research.
  • Musical skills are taught progressively, moving from the simple to the complex in logical steps.
  • Children learn the key elements of pulse, rhythm and in-tune singing through the use of their voices, movement and games.
  • In-tune singing is taught through sol-fa and rhythm through rhythm names.
  • Chants, songs, rounds and canons, are used to create group compositions and develop instrumental skills.
  • All the repertoire is directed to the appropriate age and ability levels of the child.

A couple of generations ago, most children still played in large groups in and out of school and learned how to interact as a matter of course, unlike our computer literate, TV-dependant children of today. In these games, children are in pairs or circles, listening and responding to each other, turn-taking and moving creatively to the words. And the only additional equipment necessary is an occasional skipping rope or ball. By playing these games, your children will benefit by developing skills in the following areas:

  • Social Interaction
  • Increased confidence
  • Imaginative role playing
  • Co-operation
  • Co-ordination
  • Decision making
  • Fine and gross motor skills
